A group of McDonnell Douglas employee’s in Huntington Beach got together in 1972 to set up a recreation club for motorcycle riders. The meeting attracted both street and dirt bike riders however the dirt bike riders outnumbered the street and decided to start a dirt bike club. The original name for the club was” Knobby Nuts” not a real family club name. In October 1973 the name was changed to Training Wheels Motorcycle Club “TWMC”. Dues started off at $2.00 with a roster of 68 families and $262 in the treasury. Thru the years McDonnell Douglas became Boeing. TWMC to this date is still listed as a recreation club. Annie Crawshaw was at the first meeting. The company for years subsidized our trophy cost and provided free printing to the club and in return the club supported company open houses and the United Nations Day holiday with a club outing.

Posted - 01/26/2016 : 10:30:48 PM That's so cool Ned, to see the beginnings of the club 20 years before I became a member! Back around the time that "On Any Sunday" came out... What was it like to ride Husqvarna's and Maico's and Bultaco's and Hodaka's back then? Or a big BSA or Triumph desert sled? That was just before my riding days started in the late '70s. Bell Mountain was one of the first places that I rode with my friends from Arcadia on my brand-new '81 Yamaha 175 Enduro, 11 years before I joined TWMC... Great memories! |

Less Decibels = More ??
They were already concerned about the noise levels in 1973.

Posted - 05/12/2015 : 8:31:05 PM The TWMC was somewhat sponsored by the MCDONNELL Recreation Department for many years and produced Announcement's for the club each month for posting around the facility. This is on from Jan. 1973.
